Rescattering and Electroweak Penguin Effects in Strategies to Constrain and Determine the CKM Angle γ from B → πK Decays

چکیده
A general parametrization of the B+ → π+K0 and B0 d → π−K+ decay amplitudes is presented. It relies only on the isospin symmetry of strong interactions and the phase structure of the Standard Model and involves no approximations. In particular, this parametrization takes into account both rescattering and electroweak penguin effects, which limit the theoretical accuracy of bounds on γ arising from the combined B → πK, Bd → πK branching ratios. Generalized bounds making also use of the CP asymmetry in the latter decay are derived, and their sensitivity to possible rescattering and electroweak penguin effects is investigated. It is pointed out that experimental data on B → KK allow us to include rescattering processes in these bounds completely, and an improved theoretical treatment of electroweak penguins is presented. It is argued that rescattering effects may enhance the combined B → KK branching ratio by a factor of O(10) to the 10−5 level, and that they may be responsible for the small present central value of the ratio of the combined Bd → πK and B → πK branching ratios, which has recently been reported by the CLEO collaboration and, if confirmed, would exclude values of γ within a large region around 90. Towards the Extraction of the CKM Angle γ
The determination of the angle γ of the unitarity triangle of the CKM matrix is regarded as a challenge for future B-physics experiments. In this context, the decays B ± → π ± K and B d → π ∓ K ± , which were observed by the CLEO collaboration last year, received a lot of interest in the literature. After a general parametrization of their decay amplitudes , strategies to constrain and determin...

The decays B → πK and Bd → πK were observed by the CLEO collaboration last year; they may play an important role to probe the angle γ of the unitarity triangle of the CKM matrix. After a general parametrization of their decay amplitudes within the Standard Model, strategies to constrain and determine the CKM angle γ with the help of the corresponding CP-conserving and CP-violating observables a...

We present a general parametrization of B → πK, π0K± and Bd → π0K, πK decays, taking into account both electroweak penguin and rescattering effects. This formalism allows – among other things – an improved implementation of the strategies that were recently proposed by Neubert and Rosner to probe the CKM angle γ with the help of B → πK, π0K± decays. In particular, it allows us to investigate th...

In the recent literature, bounds on the CKM angle γ arising from combined branching ratios for Bd → πK and B → πK decays received a lot of attention. If the ratio R of these branching ratios is found experimentally to be smaller than 1 – present CLEO results give R = 0.65± 0.40 – these bounds can be considered as almost model independent. It has recently been argued that rescattering effects, s...

In the recent literature, bounds on the CKM angle γ arising from combined branching ratios for Bd → πK and B → πK decays received a lot of attention. If the ratio R of these branching ratios is found experimentally to be smaller than 1 – present CLEO results give R = 0.65 ± 0.40 – these bounds are free of hadronic uncertainties at the level of 1%. It has recently been argued that rescattering e...
